Cross Bay Origins
Origins of the Cross Bay Brewery brand name:
‘Cross Bay’ relates to the area in which the brewery is based and the intriguing stories that surround the historic Bay Crossings.
Before the railway network was established in 1857, merchants and travellers would journey across the sands of Morecambe Bay as a short cut between Lancashire and The Lake District.
Crossing the Bay could be incredibly dangerous due to the fast changing tides and quick sands, Due to this, most of the travellers owed their lives to the Guides who found and marked the safest routes across the sands with laurel branches.
Today there are still two official Royal Guides who take groups across the Bay for walks and runs, often for charity.
